How do I key the 8600M directly with a paddle while running it remotely over an LAN?

I cannot get the transmitter to key with my paddle directly connected to the key jack while running remote using SmartSDR 4.1.3. The radio is 50 ft from the operating position. I ran a two-wire shielded cable from the radio to my paddle. If I get the transmitter to key I would also like to get a sidetone on my PC speakers.

You can extend the Key jack like you said and also extend the speakers for the sidetone.

    -or-

The easiest way is to invest in a Morconi and do it all over the network.

Something is blocking keying by direct connection when operating the Flex 8600 remotely over my LAN. It may be a bug or a feature.

There should be no restriction at all. I do it all the time.

Can you post some screen shots?

I second the MorConi. Tou can have two different profiles set up in the MorConi, one for local LAN and one for remote.

Mike-VA3MW, Thanks for the reply. I'll get some screen shows when I get back to it. Right now I am trying to get WSJT-X running and having DAX issues.

I have an order in for a Winkeyer USB. It is supposed to arrive Monday. Either this will then be a moot point, or there will be a whole new can of worms.

I use a Maestro B in SmartControl mode as my keyer for remote operation. If I do not feel like lugging Maestro around, I use a Hallikey usb plugged into my MacBook.

Does the Hallikey work with Windows 11?

    3rd YES for the Morconi

"Does the Hallikey work with Windows 11?" No only Mac.

Hallikey “works” with Windows (for a PTT switch or foot pedal) but it does not work for CW. The Mac program has a built-in Winkeyer which can be activated using Hallikey… but the PC program has no built-in Winkeyer.
