Xfinity Gateway randomly turning UPnP off

Starting about one year ago Xfinity started turning UPnP off on my Gateway at random times which disrupts the ability to use Smartlink. Is going from UPnP to port forwarding a fix for this? I have seen comments from others that at times Port Forwarding may not work or may also get reset. For the last year I have been logging into the Gateway to reset UPnP which works for a few days or so before it turns off again. I am sure there must be a better solution. Thanks for any help on this!

I have the same problem with Xfinity turning off the UPnP feature after a few days. It is my understanding that switching over to port forwarding is a fix, however, I have not been able to successfully do it. I suspect that Xfinity is to blame for that also, but can't say for sure. My plan is to install a different router and then switch the Xfinity modem/router into bridge mode and simply use it as a modem. I have spoken to a few others who have installed their own router and Smartlink works great for them. I hope it will work for me, but I won't be able to try it for a couple of weeks. Good luck!

I am in Canada, and my ISP (Rogers/Shaw) uses Xfinity. I have my Xfinity modem in "bridge mode" - basically just doing a media-conversion from F-Connector cable-TV to RJ-45 Ethernet data-packets.

I then follow this with my own router / firewall (a Ubiquiti UDM-Pro). It works.

In this scenario, I choose to use fixed-IP addressing, not UPNP. However a different choice of router / firewall may allow you to easily use UPNP with satisfaction.
