Loss of front panel controls.

Twice now Ive had my month old 8400M Ver 4.01 monitoring on a freq. Radio has been on for about 4 hours. I went to have breakfast only to return with a unresponsive front panel controls, Where almost nothing worked. No tuning A or B, volume, AGC, MIC. PWR, Or any filter adjustments I could however touch the NB,NR,ANF buttons which seemed to work ok. Receive was still on freq and listening. I had to shut down and reboot to gain control again. Just trying to find out what might be going on??

Thanks,
KA0M - Jeff

    Also, re-seat the power cable.

Yup I checked it first, Pulled it out and re-seated it. Plus I also did a reset. So far so good!! The issue hasn't returned so far..

A while back we had a "power excursion" here and the front panel went dark, but I was able to operate the radio via SSDR. This event caused a "function" that I wish was incorporated in the radio-sans power events. I think it would be nice to be able to turn at least the display on/off when operating remote for prolonged periods .That said, a power cycle restored normal operation.

OK, The issue came back today!! I haven't a clue what brings this on! Again I have been monitoring a couple net's all morning. Haven't needed to touch anything. Things where working OK, until i went to up the volume level a little. Nothing happened! So i checked all front panel controls. All back lite button's work, Any control with knobs, push switch knobs stopped working! I don't know whats going on here, but id sure like this issue to go away! It's starting to concern me.. Going to do a cold restart again.

hmmmmm… I'm wondering if this might be heat related. (I know, it's unlikely, but). Just for a test, maybe try turning on the rig, play with the various knobs for 15mins, then leave it alone for 3 or 4 hours. Then come back and see if it's still working. If not, that will help the engineers @ Flex figure out what's going oni.

Well that is the method of use each time. It hasn't done it more then once in a day. Its been a few weeks since the last time. Days, and weeks will go by with perfect operation! I don't think its heat, the receiver is operating at the freq last used, still receiving stations. All operating condition observed at the time gives no insight to the issue happening, until you touch a knob and nothing happens. Its like it froze up in a operating condition. Its always the same end each time. A cold boot returns it back to normal, Plus a factory reset also returns it back to normal. So I'm not sure whats happening.

I guess I should say, The last factory reset i did yesterday. A Update came up on the display during the reset. I'm not sure what it was or did, But time will tell.. Thanks everyone for your suggestions, and help. Things like this can be frustrating. especially with a new radio..
