creating vsp pairs for connecting apps via null modem emulator

Before last weekends CQWWCW test I saw many asking about how to get N1MM+ sidetone back to the operating position when using the Flexradio remotely located.

I see a nice program developed by WD8KNC called Sidetone which when used with a null modem emulator program can do the job but I am having a problem with using Com0Com as it does not place its virtual serial port pair created into the correct Device Manager sub catagory of "PORTS (Com & LPT)" but into a device manager COM0COM catagory of its own which don't seem to want to work with the latest Win 11.

I see all my actual COM ports are Flex created individual Com ports so I was "WONDERING" if maybe Flex could create a couple paired Com ports for us to use with a null modem emulator to connect the Flex CAT Winkeyer port to the Sidetone Program so everyone could have capability of N1MM cw sidetone without needing yet another 3rd party VSP program.

@K1UO Larry The sidetone is automatically sent back. There is no need for any special solutions. This was fixed in v3. Upgrade to v4 (for free) and see if you still have the issue.

@VE3MW Hi Mike, did I mention my radio was remote on my LAN and N1MM keys the remote 8400 fine just no sidetone. Com0Com is NOT working with the nice SIDETONE program to create a virtual Comport PAIR. I was just wondering outloud why Flex does not include a couple of permanently assigned virtual COM Pairs in their nice virtual comport program. Handy for interconnecting say N1MM and Flex CAT virtual Winkeyer.

UPDATE: Finally got Cor0Com V3.0 to work with SIDETONE program and now I have local CW sidetone when using the Function keys on N1MM with my radio located remotely! Works slick!!

Note: The key after loading Cor0Com Ver 3.0 is to go into Win11 updates and the driver for Cor0Com that works with Win 11 . The driver was listed under the Windows Update page advanced section.

Larry, even if remote, you should hear N1MM sidetone. Did you give it a try?

What version of SmartSDR are you using?

@ ve3mw: Hi Mike, I have an 8400 out in the he shed with Ver 4.0.1 atm, PGXL.TGXL etc etc all on the latest firmware and been remoting with various equip locations and configs for abt 15 years. I am feeding a 16 port switch in the He Shed with a 100ft fiber LAN cable from the Router in the main house. NO PC this time in the He Shed so thats probably why N1MM function key audio was never operational here in the Den until I hooked up the program called Sidetone by WD8KNC and finally got Com0Com Ver 3 working today. Im not sure why I keep hearing others still complaining about no N1MM sidetone but maybe its because they have no PC at the remote end. Anyhow all is well here so no complaints now.

    Happy Holidays de K1UO Larry
