How do I get the $50 discount on SmartSDR 4.01+?

First, you do the upgrade to 4.0.1. Once it is upgraded, you will see two buttons at the bottom of the Radio tab in the Radio Setup screen:
Pick the one that you want, SmartSDR+ (normally $199) or Early Access (normally $299). Do not select both. I don't think that Flex has a way to upgrade to Early Access from SmartSDR+, so pick the way you want it over the course of the next year.

You will need to buy SmartSDR+ before Dec 2nd. On Dec 3rd, it goes back up to $199 for SmartSDR+.

Unfortunately, that makes the discount unavailable to those of us waiting for the Aurora radios to ship.

Correct. The current programs are not part of Aurora.

Trucker .. you can't buy a license without a radio serial number. And, there is no process or tools that allow it to be done without a serial number.

I know that .

Mike, I do understand about needing a radio's serial number to purchase a v4 Plus or Early Access license. I.was simply stating that it's too bad that by the time the Aurora radios ship, there won't be a discount available to those of us who have prepaid for a Aurora radio for the upgraded license from v4 Basic. I guess the thinking is that if someone is willing to pay $8,000 to over $10,000 (including sales tax) two or three hundred dollars more shouldn't matter that much. No doubt that I will pay because it makes no sense to me to have such an expensive radio and to have its features to be crippled out of the box.
Maybe I will have my jacket and tumbler to comfort me when my AU-520M arrives!

Thanks for your thoughtful post
We totally understand the concern around the license upgrade path for those who’ve already invested in the Aurora series radios. Your point about the pricing and expectations is valid when you're spending $8,000 to $10,000+ on a top-tier SDR, it makes sense to want full functionality right out of the box without needing to navigate extra costs later.
That said, the modest upgrade fee — whether it's $50 or a bit more also plays a part in sustaining what we do. When you multiply that small amount across all the manufactured units, it becomes real revenue that helps fund the deep engineering, software development, and testing required to bring innovations like the AU-520M to life. It’s not just about licensing, it’s part of how we continue to build and support radios that push the limits of what’s possible in amateur radio. And, the Jacket and Tumbler are an added expense.
Still, your feedback and we’re always re-evaluating how we can better support long-time Flex users, especially those who’ve prepaid or jumped on board early.
The AU-520M is going to be a beast, and we’re genuinely excited for you to experience it.

Mike, I do appreciate your comments. And I do plan to get Early Access so I can offer my experiences with the AU-520M to the developers. ( I just know Eric will be excited to hear from me! 😀 ) I really am looking forward to getting the radio. I have already updated Visual Studio so I can get back to learning more about creating a interface of my own. ( don't worry, SmartSDR is safe from NSSDR.( Not So SmartSDR) stealing customers away!
