power requirements for PGXL

Good morning all. I have a 8400M and the PGXL. I am using 110 current on it. I am getting 450 to 600 watts out with 25 watts of drive. Occasionally I am getting a APC warning on the power genius. am i driving it to hard or am I exceeding the limits when using 110. Thinking of getting a 220 line run to the shack. will be moving my shack into a much larger space in Jun of next year. Your thoughts are appreciated.

    If you are getting APC warning, you will want to test it into a dummy load first and see how much drive you need. You'll want to use a dummy load to test first. A 2kw load is not expensive when you consider the value of your PGXL.

    Since you are using 120VAC, it is possible that the line voltage is sagging and that will certainly cause issues.

    About 600 watt is the max for 120VAC.

    APC can be caused by many issues.

    Ok. Mike Turn the drive down by 3 watts and getting between 450-500 watts out into the 2 KW dummy load. will see how this goes.

    Hi John

    I have a similar setup as you do. I find that in the morning with dew on the antenna's I usually lower drive to 15 to 20 watts. After a few transmissions I can raise with no issues to 25 to 30 watts.

    If it's a LOTW needed contact once transmission starts I can boost all the way to 35 watts but that's it.

    I can not transmit from a start at 35watts.

    Also at my previous QTH with 240 volts I believe the PGXL ran cooler then on 120 volts.

    Yes Ian. I run a delta loop for 40 meters here. SWR is flat all the way across the 40 meter band. The dew does not seem to affect it. I run at 23 watts of drive and get right at 500 watts peak most of the time.
