Upgrading from Ver 2 to Ver 4

Yes. The release notes say "When you purchase a SmartSDR+ feature license, you gain or retain access to all prior SmartSDR v2 and v3 major features, as well as all new SmartSDR v4 major features released during your one-year license period". So you gain MultiFlex and SmartControl from V3 without paying for V3 separately.

I interpreted the release notes to mean an owner of a v1 licensed radio when upgrading to v4 basic will get v4 basic without SmartLink and MultiFlex included. And a v2 licensed radio without MultiFlex. If that makes sense.

Yes but the question is about SmartSDR+

Yes, with a SmartSDR+ feature pack license purchase, they apparently include SmartLink and MultiFlex in this particular scenario.

No.
When you upgrade from v2 to v4 you get the same features that you had. v3 introduced MultiFlex and SmartControl and you will not have access to those features.
If you update on v1, you will not have SmartLink and the features v3. Right now, there is a bug in a v1 upgrade so those users will have to wait for the fix coming out at the end of the month.
v4.0.1 will give you a lot of maintenance and performance fixes that are not in v2.
SmartSDR+ will get you new features that are introduced for 365 days after you purchase SmartSDR+.
Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Mike, is there also a bug upgrading my 6700 from v2.12.1 to SSDR+ or should I give it a try?

Yes, if you can wait, that would be appreciated as well. v2 will be fixed at the end of the month (it is fixed now but we are waiting for a few other things). At the end of the month, we turn on all the noise features for SmartSDR+ users.

Mike VA3MW,
I'm still confused by your "No" answer above. If I upgrade from v2 and pay for SmartSDR+, I do or do not get Multiflex that was introduced in v3?

Thanks Bill, guess I'm not the only one, I thought I had this all figured out Mike but I am now officially confused with different messaging that I'm seeing. It appears I've been giving bad advice, in the community, and elsewhere, to friends who currently have FlexRadios, and planning to buy Aurora.
What is quite unclear to me now are a couple areas. Upgrading and new purchases of radios.
First lets use this scenario if upgrading from v2 to v4 SmartSDR+.
Mike you replied with a "No", no to what? Ken original post as he asked 2 questions, Eric or Dan reply.
Ken - "If I upgrade my 6400 from the ver 2 software to ver 4 and pay for the SmartSDR+ do I get all the features that were available in ver 3 or do I need to pay for Ver 3 first?"
Eric - "Yes. The release notes say "When you purchase a SmartSDR+ feature license, you gain or retain access to all prior SmartSDR v2 and v3 major features, as well as all new SmartSDR v4 major features released during your one-year license period". So you gain MultiFlex and SmartControl from V3 without paying for V3 separately."
Dan - "Yes, with a SmartSDR+ feature pack license purchase, they apparently include SmartLink and MultiFlex in this particular scenario."
To be more precise:
- What are the answers to both Ken's questions?
- Are the Release Notes, Eric and Dan reply wrong ?
Secondly, when purchasing a new radio, will that include SmartSDR+ or does the new radio purchase also require a purchase of SmartSDR+ license. It is posed elsewhere that SmartSDR Basic comes with new 8000 purchases, not SmartSDR+. I have a friend who has a 6500 and 6600 and wants to upgrade to a new radio in the new year but he was dumbfounded that he will have to spend another $199 US after spending over $10K CAN for an Aurora. Is there not enough markup on a new radio, be it an 8000 or an Aurora, to cover a SmartSDR+ license? I went to order both an 8600 and Aurora and I can see no reference to SmartSDR Basic comes with the radio or that SmartSDR+ requires a purchase. This should be loud and clear and right now it is not.
I personally am not making a move just yet for an Aurora but considering it down the road.
Third point of confusion:
From Release Notes: "Radios that have a SmartSDR+ feature license will gain access to the new features ~30 days later with a subsequent software release."
From: "Days 31: Features become available for all SmartSDR+ subscribers — automatically unlocking for anyone with an active plan."
Well find out for sure soon enough when the first 30-day period expires but one says subsequent software release the other says automatic?
Finally the Fifth point of confusion for me:
Regarding one having a SmarSDR+ Early Access, there are posts here and in the groups.io on this topic and hence confusion, don't have time to refer as my one hour time to edit this post is expiring. Mike W earlier this morning posted "Do not purchase both licenses.". That is clear to me now but documentation says otherwise, "Note on Early Access: Early Access gives you a head start on upcoming features. To retain those features after they release, pair EarlyAccess with an active SmartSDR+ Windows.".

I also wanted to add more content but editing time from original post ran out, be nice if that time limit of 60 minutes to edit, can be increased say to 120 minutes, lol.
I wanted to say usually I'm not worried too much with new stuff when comes out as it gets sorted out soon enough but in this case of v4 major release and the pending Aurora release, I want all my duck in a row, have the proper knowledge so when I'm asked or give out recommendations, or posting all the great stuff coming out, I want the correct information.
