PGXL Standby mode PTT operation

With PGXL in Standby mode, I noticed that relay(s) change state when the PTT line state changes. I thought RF should just pass through bypassing the amp. What is/are the relay(s) controlling? Should I disconnect the PTT line when I want to operate barefoot?

Hi Mike
I'll need you to elaborate.
- Relays in the PGXL?
- How are you keying the PGXL? Via a LAN/FlexRadio connection or via an OEM radio and the PTT/RCA connector.
- What version of firmware is on the PGXL
thanks

Yes, I'm referring to the relays in the PGXL.
Using an OEM radio (FTDX101) keying using PTT input on back of PGXL.
Firmware v3.8.9.
With amp in Standby-mode, keying PTT causes relay(s) to toggle in the PGXL.
SWR at xciter doesn't change whether PTT is connected or disconnected. I haven't investigated further yet as to any differences which might be happening.
Also, this is using port A. I haven't tried with port B.
My assumption is that in bypass - standby mode there should be a simple path between RF in and out so nothing should be changing.
Just want to understand what's up. Would be helpful if there was a schematic :smile:0 -
I can think of a few possible reasons this might be happening.
My guess is that it’s external to the RF chain, perhaps in the power supply area, and if that’s the case, the effect would be minimal beyond the audible clicking.
You may want to reach out to 4O3A directly for confirmation. To my knowledge, you’re the first person to bring this up, which could be because most operators are using LAN keying with FlexRadios instead of PTT.

Thanks, Mike. With a bit more investigation, I believe that the relay(s) is associated with the PTT Output as this o/p shorts when the PTT Input is closed and the relay actuates. But I've submitted a query to 4O3A to confirm.0
