Possibility of putting a 6400M face on a 6600

I have a 6400m and have an opportunity to pick up a 6600 dirt cheap. can I take the 6400M and mount it to the 6600 to make it a 6600M?

    It is not doable. The build configuration is totally different and you cannot just stick a Maestro front on a non-M core module without going through a factory configuration.

    You might be able to swap cases putting the 6600 boards in the 6400M case. Pay attention to where the cables from the front panel on the 6400M plug into it's different boards. The only thing that might be a issue is the firmware in the 6600 not seeing the front panel. It should as it is connected to an internal ethernet connection on the main board of the 6400M that should exist in the 6600. How the firmware in the 6600 treats it during an update may be a problem. Then again, if the firmware always checks the the internal network connection on bootup, then you should have no problem switching things out and turning your 6600 into a 6600M. The Windows software in the front panel shouldn't care or even know what the radio it is connected to unless it keeps something that tells SmartSDR on the front panel what radio it should find. This is a good question. The only other difference is that front panel will say 6400M instead of 6600M. And it may make it harder to sell or trade if you ever want to do that. I would ask Flex Radio to be certain that it wouldn't cause any problems.
