Flex 6400 Internal Tuner

Member ✭
I just received a Flex 6400 off a fellow ham and the radio does have the internal tuner.
Can I use my amplifier while using the internal tuner, or does the internal tuner only handle 100 watts?
I have a Palstar HF-Auto that I can use if needed, but for remote operation I would like to use the internal tuner only. My antenna is pretty resident so I really only need the tuner to touch up one or two bands.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Dan, the internal tuner has no provision for connecting its input to anything but the radio that it is mounted in. It would not tolerate 500 watts in any case. So when you run your amp, the tuner should be in bypass.

Thank you for the quick reply Len. Bypass it is.0

To add to Len's comments. Regardless of the radio system, the Tuner is part of the antenna system and because of that, the tuner is always connected directly to the antenna.
This is why we always say that if you can install the Tuner at or near the antenna, your performance will improve. It just isn't always practical.
