Are there "false positives" on Fan Malfunction?

I have a 6600. Occasionally, I'll get the power button with a single red flash. I know that means Fan Malfunction. In every case, hitting the button allows the Flex to (re)boot. This happens most often when I'm not using the Flex, but sometimes happens when I am using it (predominately FT-8).

Can some sort of power issue cause the Fan Malfunction? Any other external condition that might cause this only occasionally?

Hi Joe, yes, that can happen. In my case, it showed a fan fault, but it turned out to be a failing SD card. I would do a factory reset after exporting profiles. If that doesn't solve the issue, submit a help desk ticket.

The FAN message is part of a symptom. Sometimes you have to look a bit deeper and see that it might be a DC power issue with the 13.8V not being a full 13.8VDC.

Usually, if it is a FAN issue, the problem is more permanent.
