Audio and Mic not working on Maestro at Smart Control?

I was testing Maestro for Smart Control and found that I don't get any audio from Maestro (only from PC running SmartSDR) and I cannot use MIC plugged into Maestro (it impossible to select Maestro MIC inputs from the menu).

Is this intentional because it is quite a shortcoming when Maestro would be a desired interface for cables. It is of course good news that PTT/footswitch and paddle work through Maestro.

MIC not working is a major issue because as I understand it is still not possible to use PC MIC and DAX at the same time?

That means when using SmartSDR and PC MIC in contest it is impossible to use voice keyer/DAX. Is still so after many years? Quite hard to work around for contesters?

All the features of SmartControl are described in Chapter 9 of the Maestro User Guide.

The only hardware features available are the knobs, buttons and display. PTT and Audio available via the Maestro when using SmartControl.

Yes, you can use PC MIC and DAX as your voicekeyer on the same PC at the same time. N1MM provides the correct sequencing to turn off the MIC and turn on DAX for the VoiceKeyer. Details are here in this document. Even though it says FLEX-6700 it works for all 6000 and 8000 models.

If you are using some other contesting software that does not send the correct CAT commands, reach out to the developer and ask him to contact us for the command string.

Let us know how you make out! 73

Related, can I plug my CW paddle into Maestro and have it work in SmartControl mode? On slice A perhaps? Dan de WA1QZX

    Hi Dan,

Yes absolutely you can use a CW key with Maestro whilst in SmartControl. The sidetone for the keying will be generated by the Maestro as well. Keying mode and speed also set by Maestro.

Hi Jonathan, Oh! This is good news. OK, I will try this. I assume the keying will be associated to whatever is the current TX Slice of my SSDR session running on Macbook. Provided that slice is in CW mode? Thanks. Dan

Yes Dan, I just tried it with 4 slices and it keys whichever is TX active in CW mode. The Maestro can only modify the first 2 of course, but if you make slice C or D the active TX in SmartSDR for MacOS the Maestro will key them.

That makes sense. I shall now use Maestro as my keyer in SmartControl mode. With SmartSDR for Mac running on MacBook. Nice! Dan WA1QZX
