Starlink Remote Struggles. Any Solutions?

I'm attempting to set up a remote shack using my Flex 6700 in a home that has Starlink service. I've read everything I could find on the subject here, and elsewhere. I was prepared to deal with the CGNAT headaches and I've done all that has been suggested, at least that I've found so far. Specifically, I have:
* upgraded to Starlink "Priority" service
* enabled the Public IP option
* am using a third party (Asus RT-86U) router, with Express VPN enabled
* enabled TCP & UDP port forwarding on ports 4994 & 4993.
* registered my rig with Smartlink
* set up manual port forwarding in the Flex (automatic wasn't working either)
* rebooted my rig and modem multiple times and ...
I am still getting the dreaded "red light" of despair.
I don't want to do a factory reset on my modem, as I will have to start from scratch. I would also like to stick with the modem and VPN I have, if at all possible.
Clearly, I am missing something.
Any suggestions?

Hello Peter,
from experience the best working setup and overall the cheapest one is the solution from D4Zero!
So fare it worked for me with every possible provider. It works with an option even with the Maestro and of course with Smartlink for WIN or Mac.
Running it for more then 2 years without any issue.
Also the support and the setup from Mike is brillant.
