SmartSDR 3.9.18 Crash
I have had the new version 3.9.18 crash multiple times since installing it. It seems as though it can not handle having new profiles loaded at times. I have 4 slices normally. When I change to a new profile with 4 other channels/frequencies it can and often does crash. The radio does what appears like a new re-boot as well. In the prior versions didnt ever have this issue. With this new version there is allot of clicking in the radio like it is making a multitude more changes than previous versions. I am running a 6600.

have you tried exporting your profiles, resetting radio to factory default, then import your profiles?

Did and export. Did a full reset. Imported the info back in. And just crashed again. I am going to go back to prior version. This version has issues.

Well. I went back. Changes profiles like always has without the new hard clicking in the radio. BUT…. The AMP and TUN TABS still appear but don't work. Did a full reset. Still there but DEAD. Not very happy with this last update. They are missing something that has permanent effects on radio.

Now radio crashes again. I guess I must totally uninstall ALL flex software. Make sure ALL directories and everything is gone and Do fresh installs and try and see if can get the radio reset fully. Never had these issues until the latest version. Just great.

I uninstalled every version of flex. Removed ALL CAT drivers, audio drivers. Deleted every trace I could think of using the Revo uninstaller and all remaining directories of flex. When I re-installed 3.8.23 the AMP and TUN TABS still exist. Why… This was not part of that version. When else are files being hidden? Why did they not go away when I uninstalled the 3.9.18? This is an issue.

Did you try the Hard Reset with OUT importing the "Preferences" option back in, The "Preferences" will reload a problem that existed before in the radio after a Hard Reset.
Also did you try to see if your problem went away BEFORE you imported your profiles?
I'm not sure why the Tuner is there but the PGXL AMP has been part of SmartSDR for several years using the Ethernet connection if the AMP was set right.
Whenever I do an update I ALWAYS export my Profiles WITHOUT the "Preferences" then hard reset the Radio then load the new version or OLDER version and then reload the Profiles with out the "Preferences" clicked on just in case.

the TUNE panel is showing up since you probably still have TG XL firmware 1.2.17 installed.
If you download the TG XL 1.2.11 utility it will prompt you to downgrade the tuner firmware. Then start SmartSDR and it should not show up.

Also as Bret mentioned, exporting without preferences can fix a corrupted persistence database.

I never import anything but profiles. ONLY profiles.
I did hard resets every time.
I am aware, just forgot earlier, that the Amp showed up before. I can not recall if I uninstalled the tuner before or not.
Either way. The issue looks like the crash occurs when you change profiles to quickly, you must wait for a little bit before changes can be made again. When the changes occur the clicks in the radio are very loud, much louder than prior version of software.
I did a FULL uninstall, removed EVERY bit of Flex from computer, verified within every part of computer system, took a while. Rebooted a few times. Did a fresh install with no prior versions of any flex software on computer. So far it is working but I have not done allot other than let it sit on 4 slice channels.

Yup. And now I can not get into a net because it crashes everytime I try and load a profile that has 4 slices. This new software is BAD.

Glenn,
Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with SmartSDR v3.9. We'd like to get the issue you're dealing with addressed. Could you shoot me an email with an export of the profile you're having trouble with attached to eric AT flexradio DOT com please? If there's more than one profile included, please let us know which one is causing the crashes you are seeing. We are tracking this as SMART-11298.

Hello,
Since update I am also having a lot of crashes of the Flex 6600. When I change band for example it craches and radio reboots. Even after reboot sometimes I have a connection lost from radio and need to completely turn the radio off and on again…

I'm having the same problem since installing 3.9.18 with random reboots of the radio. My radio runs 24/7 and this is happening every eight to twelve hours. My setup includes a Flex 6600, PGXL, TGXL and Antenna genius running four slices all on SCU "A". My network switch is a Cisco 3850, 24 port Gig PoE.
When this happens I shut down SSDR, Tuner Genius, Power Genius and Antenna Genius utilities. When I restart just SSDR I note that the SWR meter display for the TGXL within the Radio Panel is flashing like there is high SWR even though I'm not transmitting. The radio SWR is displaying ~1.5:1. When I power the TGXL down the flakey SWR indication goes away, however as soon as I power the TGXL back up it comes back. The only way I've been able to clear this condition is to shut down all of the software and then power down all of the Flex equipment in my station. Looking at the light on the Ethernet ports there appeared to be a very high level of network traffic. I didn't look at the counters in the Cisco 3850, although I could if that would be helpful. I can also take Wireshark traces next time this happens if that would be helpful.
Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide regarding this issue.

I had the same problem with a 6600 and a TXGL after upgrading the 6600 to V 3.9.18 and upgrading the TXGL to V 1.2.17.
The crashes happened during- or shortly after tuning the TXGL. It didn't make a difference if i was doing this via the new integrated tuner panel in SSDR or via the separate TGXL software panel. After downgrading the TGXL firmware to 1.2.11 the Tuner panel in SSDR vanished and all worked fine again (with the 6600 still on V 3.9.18).
So it seems to me that there is a problem with the TXGL integration in SSDR.Hope this helps, 73 Tjakko

its a big bug also on my 6400M, when at all restart the radio, why coming on 60m ?
and some time no band, you need tuch on A VFO to start the radio, it's a big Bug when you are remote the radio, nothing work 🙃
i return to 3.8.23 i now all work

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but i have noticed that the new ANLG feature (analogue signal meter v3.9.18) occasionally flicks to full scale, holds a second and then returns to normal position. This happens on the 8000 and 6000 series radios.
There is no indication of any signals on the spectrums or waterfalls when this happens. Also the bar signal indicators within the slices do not reflect this random full-scale movement.
My 8000 series flex is connected via LAN and my6000 series flex is connected direct via cat6 cable to my PC. This issue appears to be within the new software version on each PC.

my 6500 S meter used to flicker full scale intermittently. That was on previous software versions. Haven’t noticed it yet on my 8600

Maybe there is a peak hold feature for the new analog meters?

Tim never sleeps —- seriously, the guy works 16 hour days. I guarantee that this is being discussed internally. Sorry you are having an issue.

One more to the pool of 3.9.18 issues.
I have a frequent computer freeze/unresponsive since ver. 3.9.18 installed. My 8600 is running 24x7 and i have to reboot my PC about twice per week. No errors, just freeze.
I do not use any profiles, do not create them or backing them up or restore.

Hey Russ, yes I upgraded TGXL to 1.2.17. I may try previous version as I do not see the benefit of TGXL in SSDR, it is getting too crowded and I prefer a stand alone TGXL and PGXL application. They are resizable and can be moved anywhere on my desktop.
I do not know if it a TGXL or in general SSDR 3.9.18 making my computer not happy, will see.
Thanks,
Sergey, KN7K

Following up here. I did quite a bit of testing this evening attempting to reproduce crashes unsuccessfully with 4 Panadapter or 4 Slice profiles on v3.9.18. I understand there may be another factor here with the TGXL v1.2.17 firmware that some are having more stability when they roll back to an earlier version. For the moment, I'm setting that aside as a separate issue.
Is there anyone here that can reliably reproduce a crash when loading a profile as mentioned in the first post of this thread? If so, could you please respond here? I'd like to understand more about the situation causing the crash so that we can get it fixed up. Thanks.

Thanks for that description. That's really helpful. I'll give that scenario a try. I assume when you say "change any profile", you're talking about Global Profiles, correct?
