Smartsdr setup

Hi All,

Just aquired a FLEX 8400M and am struggling to setup the 8400M with SmartSDR V3.8.23.

Not looking for remote operating or access from a network…just my Win10 PC and the 8400M.

After much trial and error the Smartsdr seems to work on the PC…..whilst the 8400M is working on a completely different band/frequency…..should the 8400 be showing the same as the Smartsdr? or am I completely misunderstanding everything?

Sorry for a basic/**** question but I am really out of my depth here.

Thanks Roger G0IUW

    Hi Roger

Welcome to MultiFlex. Yes, you can be on 2 different frequencies, modes, etc at the same time.

As you are new to the radio, I would highly recommend that you focus on just using 1 of the Clients at the same time as trying to use both can be confusing for the new user.

We have numerous new user videos in a playlist that might help you out.

Hi Roger, once you get comfortable controlling the radio, check section 9 of the User Manual. There you will find information on putting your front panel into SmartControl mode.

SmartControl will allow you to use SmartSDR and the front panel on the same two slice receivers simultaneously. With this setup, you get the best of both worlds - big, easy to read display on the computer screen with keyboard and mouse control, as well as simultaneous use of the front panel knobs and buttons.

All of the current Flex radios allow multiple simultaneous operators. This feature is called Multiflex. These operators can be in the same location, or operate remotely. For example, a contest operation can have a “run” operator and a “search and pounce” operator simultaneously operating the same radio. In your case the pc is one operator and the front panel is essentially a separate operator.
