    Alternatives to Teamviewer

    Hello are there any alternatives FREE alternatives to Team viewer ? I had a free account for a long time. And used it to access my PC with my smartphone or Ipad or other laptop while out of town. Know they are saying it seems that I using it for commercial use. What else can I use to remote into my PC desktop so I can access controls like my TGXL control etc ?

      There are alternatives such as AnyDesk and AnyViewer, both free for personal use. My preference is TeamViewer and occasionally the claim of commercial use kicks in erroneously. You can ask to have it removed or you can overcome it by using one of the procedures described here

      I use the 'change mac address' method myself. It is usually good for about 2 years of TV use before their detection system mistakenly views my use as commercial again. Then I repeat the process.

      My personal preference is to use Microsoft Remote Desktop and then use TailScale to handle the connection. Both are free. You do need to have Windows 10 or 11 PRO but I was able to upgrade for about $10 each on licenses I bought from Amazon.

      RDP is not enabled in Windows home versions.

      You can always run VNC as well. It should be good enough on the free version.

      But then you have to purchase VNC Server if I recall correctly. It does come installed in Raspbian…

      Personally, I have no issue paying someone for a service especially in the software world.

      If you are looking for a free solution, then do this:

      • Run TightVNC Server on the devices you require such as Windows
      • VNC runs on Debian and it often installed from the beginning. There is lots of Raspbian documentation regarding how to make this work.
      • Use ZeroTeir to handle the remote connections. Again, free.

      That should resolve most of your issues.

      I use VNC for a few purposes.

      I also have ZeroTier configured to access my home network using a RPi Bridge.

      I believe it was Danny.K5CG, who provided some great info regarding setting that up.

      There is also TightVNC which is a a simple free version of VNC but IT IS NOT COMPATABLE with RealVNC or the VNC built into Raspberry Pi that I have not gotten to work, I ran RealVNC for several years until it they did away with the Free version. TeamViewer was my RD of choice but moved on to AnyDesk because I am a cheapskate.

      There are many to choose from, and I always keep a couple active. You have no way of knowing when a Teamviewer event will happen to prevent you from reaching your remote station at a critical time. Having a few alternatives already set up and tested mitigates this risk.

      From personal experience, I would add a product called RustDesk to the mix.

      I also use Microsoft RDP mostly for internal LAN connections to other computers but I recently ran across some information indicating Microsoft is going to phase out RDP Client in favor of another solution. I did not go further researching this so you might want to take some time getting knowledgeable of what the future might hold if you decide to go down the RDP path.

      I use TeamViewer, but have been playing with "No Machine" seems to work well very quick low latency.

      @Mike-VA3MW , I use RDP as well, but I’m curious—how are you getting audio on the computer running the RDP client?

      My issue is that when I connect via RDP, I have to set the client to play audio on the remote machine instead of my local one. If I move to run on local one all the DAX channels disappear, and nothing works.

      Are you using any other software or method to hear and send audio over RDP without breaking DAX functionality?

      For Audio, I use SmartLink and run SmartSDR on the local computer I am using. It makes it very easy. You can do both at the same time.

    Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
