I think I know the answer, but I'll ask it anyway. Will v3.7.4 run on an 8400? I may try it for for grins.

DO NOT load any version older than 3.8.21 in an 8400 or 8600. I do not know if the radio would allow downgrade or not but 3.8.21 is the first version to support the new hardware. Remember, the CPU and FPGA are different than 6000 series radios.

Hi Ed, the 8000 series require a minimum of 3.8.x.

I know. I was hoping someone would pipe up and say… Yeah! I did it and it works fine! ;-)

Hi Ed, you misspelled and. I corrected it.

Follow up question. Will trying it brick the rig?

    Thanks Dave!

It may not brick the radio. But, you may well experience problems because of how the firmware for the new radios is written. It is always a good idea to run the recommended version for your radio. I certainly wouldn't suggest trying that on a expensive radio I just purchased.

I do not know what will happen but during Alpha testing, we were told explicitly to not use an older version than 3.8.21.

It won't likely let you even try. But, if you feel lucky, give it a shot! :)

Considering the luck I had changing the plastic overlays on my 6600M, I think I'll pass. :-)
