Flex-6400M Operation Question
Hi All,
Sorry if this question has been asked before. I suspect it has but i couldn't find anything using search and I also couldn't find anything in the manual… yet.
Here's the question -
I bought my "M" version a few years ago because I wanted to have the "old style" radio front. However, I've gotten to the point that for some things I would rather just run the radio from the SmartSDR screen on my monitor and I don't want to run the radio from my computer in multiFlex mode with the Maestro running.
I have noticed that I can run the radio via SmartSDR without fully booting the Maestro panel. There are a couple of points where the Maestro panel bootup pauses waiting for touch screen input: the first one is the screen with the radio's serial number, the model number and my call sign; the second is the "Version" screen.
So, which screen is it appropriate to abandon the Maestro bootup and still have have access to all of the radio's features via SmartSDR with my computer? I haven't seen any difference in the operation but I want to be sure I'm not creating problems or unintended consequences.
Thanks for your input.

Hi Dean, here is something else to consider... Try putting the front panel into SmartControl mode. You can find it in the Maestro manual. Then you get the best of both worlds; Mouse and keyboard control, the big computer screen AND the knobs and buttons of the front panel.

Yes, you can boot your M model and never touch the front panel and still use it from a PC. Give it a try.
You only need to touch the front panel if you want to use some of the features it has.

Thanks Mike. That is what I had been doing. I just wanted to make sure that operating that way wasn't creating any problems with the radio or Maestro unit itself. Now I know. Thanks.
