Smartlink will connect remotely at one hotel and not another. what could the difference be??

Member, Unconfirmed
6500, latest version Smartsdr 3.7.4. everything works fine. I can connect via Wi-Fi at home no problem. I can connect at one hotel Wi-Fi with no problem and everything works fine. Next hotel no go. Smartsdr sees the radio, test is green, but when trying to connect I get the message "unable to connect to radio. try again" why will it connect at on hotel and not the other?? oh, I've also tried connecting directly to the lan via ethernet at the hotel and it still not connect.

I suspect that different hotels use different WiFi routing hardware — and they likely have different firewalls in place (or maybe none at all!)

Sometimes, the hotels I visit, will partially, or fully block, the UDP ports necessary for the SmartSDR waterfall view.

It is hit and miss a lot of times in my opinion. Find a good hotel, with good Internet that works well for remote access, and stay there more often.

I’ve personally had good luck with Hilton, Sonesta, and Marriott… plus others.

Thanks, that's sort of what I thought. Just wanted someone's take on it incase I was missing something. Thanks for the reply
