Questions on the Optional High-performance GPSDO for 8000 series radios.

I am curious about the Optional High-performance GPSDO
- Has a price for the option been established? If so what is it.
- Will it be user installable or must it be installed prior to shipment or radio sent back?
- Is there a data sheet for the optional Optional GPSDO?
Thanks Dave WB1S

The news today. It is a work in progress.
- Approximately the same price (Subject to change)
- Factory installed - the radio has to come home or be ordered with it
- see below
- It has a 10Mhz output.
If you have an 8000 on order there will be a point in time when we will reach out to you for options so they can be included on the same invoice. Please don't call ahead of time looking to add options only because we have no way to track them until your order/invoice is actually created. It is a paperwork/accounting thing.
I hope this helps.

Since it’s the same item as in the 6400/6600 (except for the connector), I presume it will cost about the same (allow for inflation). However, with the built-in GNSS receiver, I don’t think many owners will find the GPSDO particularly useful.

It is the same GPSDO, but mounted on a different sub board and in a different place underneath the main board. I haven't actually seen it but this is the information that was passed on to me.

Deroy,
I wanted to provide you with an update on your current RMA. What we discovered testing your unit is the issue, which presented itself as a hardware problem, is actually a firmware issue designated as SMART-10785. We have also determined the root cause of the problem. It has been addressed in the upcoming SmartSDR v3.9 firmware release. Once you install the SmartSDR v3.9 firmware, it will restore the 10 MHz GPSDO output."1 -
The GPSDO (actually a GNSSDO) in the 8000 series is NOT the same as the GPSDO in the 6000 series. The 6000 GPSDO is a GPS-only receiver (read US system). The 8000 series GPSDO works on multiple systems and includes the satellite based augmentation system (SBAS) for multiple systems. The same goes for the factory installed GNSS receiver. While both use the same underlying receiver, the GPSDO (again, actually a GNSSDO). Both feature Anti-Jamming, Multipath Mitigation and Anti-Spoofing. Both options have excellent stability and frequency accuracy. The GPSDO also provides holdover capability for any situations where GNSS system or visibility become compromised. The GPSDO also provides a 10MHz reference output for use with other devices or test equipment in your shack.
