4O3A NC-1 headset direct into Flex6400 doesn't work
Hi
Tried to use this headset with my Flex6400, but get no audio into Flex. Bias was set on in SmartSDR.
My previous headsets has jackplug 3.5mm with two rings. This one has three. Would this given problems for working? You would expect that 4O3A has thought about this. Or maybe I'm overlooking something?

Hi Laurens... the 3 rings plus sleeve - i.e TRRS) implies that your headset is using R Audio, L Audio, Mic, and ground. The headset jack on the Flex 6400 is expecting a 2-ring with sleeve (TRS), which implies it is R Audio, L Audio and ground, or Audio, MIC and ground. From the 6400 Hardware Manual, the implication is that the Headphones jack is for the former -- stereo audio output only (no MIC).
So, you will probably need an adapter to take the TRSS plug from your headset to split it out into a TRS for the Headset jack and a separate tip/sleeve plug for the MIC jack. There are lots of them available online.

I'm a bit confused...TRRS has 2 rings and TRS has 1 ring...Yes?
TRRS = Tip-Ring-Ring-Sleeve
TRS = Tip-Ring-Sleeve

Yes, Geoff...TRRS has the tip and then 2 rings, then the sleeve -- in effect, 4 connections. Sometimes people confuse this and say it's 3 rings.....
TRS is Tip, one Ring, and the Sleeve -- 3 connections, sometimes called 2 rings :-)
I used the TRRS description to remove any confusion. (I hoped)

Hey Don...That's what I assumed; I lead a sheltered life and had never heard the "3 ring" and "2 ring" nomenclature used to describe a TRRS and TRS plug.
Thanks!

Hi
I have two wires coming from headset. TRS for microphone and TRS from audio.
My Heil has just TS for microphone and works well.
I need adapter from TRS to TS?

You might. We are going to test this later today hopefully.
You might want a TRS to TS adapter that shorts the R and S parts.
You can find them on Amazone.

Mike,
Did you do some test?

I had Andy test and it also failed to function.
I will get it back from him next week when I see him, but I am really sure that a TRS to TS (stereo to mono) adapter will solve the issue.
My guess is that the headset uses T and R for the Mic connection. Not T and S.
