Using SmartSDR 2.8 and considering moving to 3.3.x ...

Been looking for a FAQ that outlines the differences between 2.8 and 3.3.x. If such a FAQ or thread exists, please point me to it.

We are using 2.8 with a FLEX6400 in a local/remote setup and it's been working fine. We don't need to multi op features of 3.3.x but we are wondering if there are any performance enhancements in 3.3.x which are not present in 2.8.

So, does 2.8 offer the same performance as 3.3.x (minus the multi op stuff)? I wonder if the NR is better? More features?

Our FLEX6400 does not have the tuner and we are using an Expert 1.3K-FA amplifier without any issues.

Thanks :-)

Hi Bruno... as far as I'm aware, the code used in 3.3x and 2.8 is pretty much the same, except for the multi-op functionality. I don't believe you'll see any 'performance' difference between the two. There is, specifically, no difference in the NR functionality/performance.

Thanks Don ... then we will stay with 2.8 as it is working just fine for us :-)

If it works, don’t fix it.

John.... "if it works, don't fix it"... unless you're adding new 'features' or 'making it work better' :-)

(I can't count the number of radios/appliances/etc. I've ruined trying to add new stuff to them...)

One feature in 3.X that I love is Smart Control. This allows SmartSDR for PC or MAC to be running then use controls on front of M series radios or Maestro.

Handy instead of reaching for the mouse.
