Using Link Local when DHCP not available

When I take the 6600M to a site that does not have Internet available (or DHCP source), I connect the radio to the copper port on my PC. The two devices talk to each other using Link Local addresses (169.254.x.x). The PC is connected to the Internet via WiFi and a hotspot I have along. This has worked well.

My question is. If I had the 6600M and PGXL on a switch and the PC connected to that, will Link Local work between all of these devices. Will the PGXL support Link Local? I think it is native to the spec. Not sure in real world use though.

BTW, the Internet access on the WiFi side is only for the laptop. THe radio has no access or need to access it.

    The PGXL will support link local but TGXL defaults to a 192.168.x.x subnet.

    My suggestion if you are planning on using the equipment without Internet access is to still use a home router to provide DHCP service and provide IPs to the equipment. Set DHCP reservations for the equipment rather than static IPs. This way if the router ever gets changed to one on a different local subnet you won’t run into problems communicating to the equipment.

    I do not have the TGXL yet, but may at some point. So that is good to know.

    Sounds like I will be fine to connect the 6600M, PGXL and PC to a switch and operate the way I have been. I will have to play with that once the PGXL comes.

    You say the TGXL defaults to the 192.168.x.x network. I assume it will accept any address via DHCP? I run 10.x.x.x here.

    Yes, it will look for DHCP server first, then default to its default IP. As of current firmware the TGXL does not default to link local.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
