    3 db. That's 1/2 an S unit. It might make a difference. 500 watts would be a whole S unit.

    put up a better higher gain (3db gain) Antenna this way you also benefit with getting MORE ERP (Effective Radiated Power) and RX signal strength to the radio with out having to purchase a little 200W AMP.

    Check out the non US Amp builders they may have one that is 5 watt's in and 200 watts out for the CB band folks.
