"Who's Online" --- Guests and posting

The "who's online" section often shows a number of guests.

QUESTION -- Is this the count of members online that set their profile preference to hide their online status?

QUESTION -- Can members with their online status hidden still comment and post?

QUESTION -- Assume their name and icon would still appear in any posting. Is that correct?

Just curious about how this all works.....
