Do I need the fan mod?

I have a new to me 6300, and have seen it twice shut down on its own, once while actively listening, and again just on receiving ft8 while I was doing other things. Plenty of space round it, didn't seem noisy and didn't hear any increase in fan speed, switched the meter on from frstack and pa temp was 40 ish. but the top of the case was quite warm/hot, not enough to burn but uncomfortable. Do I need a fan mod? or is it something else, and what actually is the fan mod? Are there any logs to download to see if anything was recorded?

If its shutting down spontaneously, it may be worth opening a support ticket to check things out.0

My 6600 has been running all day and night and the top of it is at room temperature.0 -
I put some additional rubber feet under mine and also make sure the intakes and outtakes aren't stuffed with dust bunnies. I have one of the early ones and it has never shut down due to thermal issues. I **** anything with a fan out, at east every 6 months.

Steve. You mentioned you switched on the meter from frstack ? What is this? I have a 6300 and I'm running 2.49. Is there a way to monitor the temp on the PA through Smart SDR? If so I would like to know how. Thank you.. 730

Steve, their are a few programs that work with the Flex 6000.
I like to use this,,, SDRMonitor (v2.3.1 - Released: 05/13/2018)
It places a bar on the screen and you can place it anywere. It reads out all the important info.0 -
Does the 6300 button blink different colours for trouble codes?0

use Release 2.4.10.19 for your version of smartsdr
after you install it, go to the view menu and select meter window.

No just flashes green when its powering up and solid green when on line, I didn't notice if it was blinking after it shut down. I will keep an eye out when/if it does it again.0
