My wife has ordered me this microphone for my birthday and I wondered if anyone uses one and what cable they used and what the connections are ? Should I use a patch box and keep the cable connectors intact because the cable will probably be a balanced type ?

There's a chance you may pick up unwanted ambient or fan noise from the other side of the mic. since it's a figure-8 pattern. But then again, ribbon mic's don't have large amounts of gain, so you might be OK.
You'll need an 3-pin XLR mic cable. Don't know yet, but you might need a preamp/EQ. Although the 3K has an EQ built in. The mic has a transformer output to XLR. You do NOT need a phantom supply.
You'll need a way to interface the XLR mic cable to the radio. I'm sure there's something out there or you could make one yourself. You'll need to know if you will be using PTT or voice activation.

Thanks for the info and links John, I did read that one needs a wind sock over the microphone which might help reduce noise into the back of the microphone. I presume that the flex's audio settings will have to be reset as per the suggested levels.
Never had a good quality mic before, so its a new ball game for me.

The mic arrived and I slipped a cut down old stockings over it, as a spit guard. Can anyone share their settings on the flex 3000. So far, I activated the mic boost in the transmit window and have tried different mic levels and mic settings, but dont see any for this particular microphone. Darrin suggest adjusting the leveller settings to around 1 00 to 200ms
PS. I built my own interface into a diecast box with a PTT button and sofar so good.0
