Multiple users, one local, one via VPN?

I am considering purchasing a Flex 6300 with a friend of mine who is moving into a condo, and will not have any HF capabilities. I understand he would be perfectly able to connect to the Flex at my QTH remotely via VPN once I set that up.

However, does the radio have the ability to work with 2 instances of SmartSDR? If I am using Slice A, could he receive on Slice B?

No.  Multi-user access is not allowed, so multiple instance of SmartSDR for Windows is not permitted.

Not yet. It could be a future feature.

Ok, so if my friend is using the rig while I connect, will it kick him off, or tell me that it's in use?

SmartSDR will show the radio as in-use. There is no way to kick somebody off unless you shut the radio down. It's is either or.

Ok, fantastic. I think that will be a very acceptable compromise. Thanks!

However...There is nothing to stop you from streaming the audio to multiple listeners so the group can "read the mail." RemAud is a free audio streamer that allows multiple users if they have the correct password.

Of course there is websdr web site where one can read the mail from stations all over the world. I don't believe there is any facility in the cicuitry to allow two transmissions, now or in the future. This is why they are called slice receivers. Your friend could buy his own that you could host. Put his radio in the basement and let him put his ant on your tower. But what a guy!! Can we be friends too??

LOL yes, we can be friends!! I figure this kind of an arrangement benefits both of us, so why not! Glad to know there are provisions for this kind of thing. I will use it when I am traveling, and if it gives me the ability to help another ham, then that's all the more reason.
