Made my first FDV contact today with W0VB. He sounded like he was with me in the shack. Great job so far FRS.
By the way, what does the FDV dialog box trying to tell me?

Digital and analog voice at the same time. Just fantastic.

This is a great mode, I am enjoying having more people on FreeDV. I have been using it through the Windows program before this waveform plugin arrived.

Two points that I have noticed.
    1. This would be a good application for a squelch.
    2. Recording and playing back sends back the digital signal through the audio channel which gets digitized again. This doesn't work yet.

I could never get the software program to work. I think you need two sound cards to make the software version work.

Made my first FTV qso this evening..  Signals good and absolutely no noise.  Great feature for SMartSDR, hope maybe RTTY makes it in there sometime in the future..  73s all, Jim K4JAF

Yes, I had it running via DAX on both my 6500 and 1500. I will try this later tonight.

On the squelch, we talked to the FreeDV folks about this --namely Mel, K0PFX.  If I remember correctly he mentioned the concern that if you squelch the non-digital conversations you might accidentally talk on top of an analog QSO thinking there was no one on the frequency.  There may still be a way to do it -- I think we discussed it and perhaps implemented something.  Graham and Ed would remember.

In the past there has been much consternation among SSB/CW HFers when the digital guys just transmit without listening.  It's important that we all listen before transmitting and this makes it easy to "do the right thing."

Interference between USB and FDV is a valid concern. The waterfall is handy in mitigating this issue.

FreeDV has squelch built in to the Windows application. It would be good to see it in the waveform.
