Com Port Assignments Release
Bill
Member ✭✭
A local ham, who has serious medical issues and has had to sell his Flex 6500, has ask me for help on freeing up all the com ports the SmartCAT has taken. I have uninstalled all the Flex related programs, including SmartCAT, but the com ports continue to be assigned and unavailable for his use. I am looking for information/directions on how to help him out.

Bill,
Open up the Windows Device Manager... on the menu bar go to the View item - one of the options says "Show Hidden Devices" - check this item and then go and open the COM & LPT ports in the tree display of all the hardware.
Right click on the devices you want to remove and click Uninstall.
This should clean out all the old entries in the Registry.

You must manually uninstall FlexVSP or SmartSDR CAT, depending on the version using the Windows Control Panel as per the instructions in the CAT documentation to remove the virtual com port drivers ( http://www.flexradio.com/downloads/smartsdr-cat-user-guide-pdf/ )0
