Connect to router or direct to computer?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of connect the F6 direct to the computer or via a router? Happy Holidays to all, and thanks to the Flexonians for the answers to all my previous questions.

    Bill, They are exactly equal unless you have a very old (buggy) router that perhaps picks up RF. I routinely run the 6700 via WiFi and over my wired 1 Gb network. Works flawlessly in every case. Mack W4AX

    I'll second Mack's comments. Of course, if you want to access the Flex via your LAN, a direct connection to your PC won't work. Likewise, if you want to have internet connectivity on your PC, you'll need to either have dual NICs or connect the radio and PC to your LAN individually. I run both my PC and 6500 to a wireless access point in the shack, connecting them to my home Wi-Fi. Works like a champ.

    Thanks guys I've been thinking about setting my Elmer (in a retirement village) up so he can operate my station remotely. He can still do 60 wpm cw, but they won't let him put up antennas. (probably too many pacemakers in close proximity?? LOL) So I'll just leave it connected to my router. (besides I don't have two ports on the computer) lol Thank you and have a good Holiday!

    Well, not exactly equal. Functionally yes, but operationally a switch/router will have more port level buffering and (maybe) packet CRC checking. Also Windows is NOTORIOUSLY bad at IP routing so connection a FLEX-6000 directly to the PC and another network connection, either wired or wireless can be problematic. I vote for the switch router.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
