noise levels of the Aurora 520-M

After reading several posts about the 520-M, I’m worried about the noise this transceiver can make. I’m mostly talking about the noise generated during reception, not transmission. I’m aware that when transmitting at full power, you need to cool the transistors.

Are you talking about ambient shack noise, IE from fans? Or are you talking about RF noise visable on the pan adapter of the radio?

In my experience, AU-510 (non M model) the fan noise is quieter than my old IC 7300 and IC 7610. Transmit at full power would ramp the fan up slightly but still very quiet.

I do not see RX noise on the pan adapter although I did not really check for it. I suspect it is very RX quiet.

I have a AU-520M and with my hearing, ( I wear hearing aids) I don't notice any objectionable noise from the radio's internal fans. I can hear the fans in my desktop computer much more than the Aurora when I have it running.

Fan noise is very subjective it seems. For some, they don't even notice it. Others can hear a mosquito fly by! :)

It is for this reason, that radio purchased from FlexRadio directly come with a 30 day return policy. This way you can spend some time taking it for a test drive. And, if you don't like it, you can send it back for a refund.
