Aurora Remote Access Station? (WA9L – LA Area)

Hi everyone,

I’m Bill (WA9L) in the Los Angeles area. Due to severe antenna restrictions at my QTH, I’m looking for occasional (or possibly regular) remote access to an Aurora-equipped station via SmartLink/Maestro.

I already have a Maestro C and am fully licensed. Happy to compensate fairly for airtime, electricity, or a subscription-style arrangement — whatever works for the owner. Prefer good antenna setups for HF/DX, but open to discussing details.

If you own an Aurora (or know someone who does) and are open to sharing remote access, please reply here or DM me. Thanks in advance — 73 and looking forward to some great operating!

Bill, WA9L

HI Bill… do any of the ham radio clubs in your area operate remote stations? I know there are many here in Canada (especially those with older and/or 'in-homes' members) who have either set one up or are actively looking into it.

Also, there are remote stations available via the internet located throughout the US (and the world, if I remember correctly). I think if you search 'remote ham stations' you should get a number of useful links.

Hey Don - Thanks for the tip. I'm using my Maestro C with a club in Chicago that is really great. They have 5 stations. I just want to experience an Aurora remotely and use that 500 watts and hopefully a great antenna system to make it more fun. I'm thinking too that the new Aurora is perfect for remote operations. It is light weight and doesn't draw much power. I'm just hoping someone has an Aurora remote will reach out and if nothing else let me know how is is to operate remotely. 73 Bill

    Hi Bill,

I have an Aurora equipped station located in Fort Collins, CO using a loop antenna so multi-band for the most part. I work 5 days a week so the station could be available days and even some weekends.

Right now my Aurora is waiting a replacement so I have my 6600 + PGXL + TGXL operating.

    Contact me at ws7m @ arrl.net

Hi Mark, Here is a cool service that lets you share your radio among other users very gracefully.

I also have a much less sophisticated app available on GitHub.
