Remote Operation

Hello, if I wanted to set up a remote Flex radio in the countryside away from electronic noise and then operate it from my shack... how easy would that be? Is it feasible? I would need the radio, HF antenna, a 5G router and a cabinet to keep it all in.

Would it be that simple or an I missing something?

Hi Jim, it is very simple! One thing to note regarding the Internet service at the radio location - it needs to be single-natted (i.e. not CGNAT). There are solutions for getting around CGNAT, but it is much easier if you have your own external IP address.

Mike, VA3MW has some excellent videos on YouTube about remoting a Flex. One thing that he mentions a lot are the advantages of a PC located with the radio. It doesn't typically need to be a high-end PC (depending on what you are doing with it), so a medium power PC will generally suffice.

Another thing to consider is having a remote switch that can turn the radio on and off. They are very inexpensive, and can really help if you need to restart your radio. I got a 4 channel WiFi switch for around 20 USD that lets me power the radio on or off from anywhere that I have cell service.
