Flex-6600+DM780+Winkeyer = HELP!!!

Ok, Newby again here...

Got a Winkeyer (COM6) working fine with DM780; whatever I enter and send in DM780, the CW Winkeyer outputs fine on the Winkeyer...

configured a winkeyer port in SmartSDR CAT (COM7) added it in DM780-Option-Modes + IDs page.

But nothing seems to be sent to the FLEX-6600?

Some posts I saw mentioned setting the SmartSDR CAT to the COM port of my Winkeyer (COM6). Is that correct? But SnartSDR CAT won't let me choose the COM port number???

What am I doing wrong?

I have a couple of WinKeyers, but I know nothing about your DM780… nonetheless, I'll try to help.

First: when you say "nothing is sent to the Flex" do you mean no CW is transmitted? I'm going to assume this is the case…

Your Flex 6600 needs the WinKeyer OUTPUT connected to the KEY jack on the back panel of your 6600. In the Settings, you'll need to make sure the IAMBIC setting is "Off" (this disables the Flex's internal keyer, and allows the Flex to simply follow the input key-closures… this is what you want when an External Winkeyer is used).

For an external hardware WinKeyer, no CAT port is needed or used. Just the WinKeyer out, to the Flex Key In.

    Does this help?

(Another approach may be to get rid of your external WinKeyer altogether, and have the DM780 use CAT to talk to the Flex 6600 internal WinKeyer directly. Perhaps this is what you want to do …?)

Thanks greatly appreciate the help! 😀

I was trying to keep the winkeyer remote with the pc! I should have specified this... but maybe I should not? Maybe I should as you suggested install the winkeyer at the radio and port it via smartsdr cat to the dm780 on the remote pc (not smartlink... local network)

Ok need to test this... more home work...
