Dax, Icoms, WSJT-x and Audio mix-ups and Woes
Has anyone else run into this or similar issue?
I’m running a Flex 6600, IC-7300, and IC-9700 with their associated DAX and USB audio devices, respectively, along with using WSJT-x with all three on Win11. I’m having issues were the Flex audio devices start using the audio from the Icoms, or the Icoms are getting confused and are sending the audio there. The Icoms use USB Audio Devices and WSJT-x are setup to use them but, if I open the “Sound” settings and look at what is using the audio (using the legacy Sound settings app with the bar graphs) I see that the bar graphs on the Flex Dax devices are showing the audio from the Icoms. The Icoms then start using the audio from the Flex. ****😉
Confusing isn’t it.
I know the easy answer is to use a separate computer, or curse Windows, blame Icom, or blame Dax.
A separate computer here in the shack for the "Flex" will work. I would just need to do all the WSJT-x setups for the Flex again or import/move all the C:\users\…. files. Because I can’t get the audio from the "Flex" computer to my main computer for WSJT-x to use(or is there?).
Why am I even using the Icoms? Well first, you can’t use transverters (2m and 440) on the Flex and do HF at the same time(the transverters use both SCUs) , so that’s where the IC-9700 comes into play, second while I’m using the Flex for 2m and 440 I use the IC-7300 for HF. If I reinstall either the Flex SSDR software or the Icom sound drivers it works for a while, then it all falls apart again. My guess it's probably when Windows Updates.
To Sum up, I can’t use WSJT-x with the Flex and the Icoms on the same computer at the same time, the audio just gets all messed up.
Is there any fix for this?

Good morning George,
What dax channel numbers are you using for your various devices. I dont have icoms here but your dax is getting confused somehow.
One thing under each flex device in audio setup you need to limit the audio to single channel. 48k … and also select that windows cannot use the device. Also try assigning dax 3 and 4 to your flex bands. Just this week, i have brought up jtdx on 1.840 160m and wsjtx on 1.836... i put the cat and t/r on 127.0.0.1:60000 and a second on 127.0.0.1:60001 and each does t/r separately and each has its own dax channel. Same computer, same scu. As i only have 1 scu on the 6500. Im suspecting the icom codex is getting confused with dax under windows so leave those on channels 1 and 2 and try that. My guess is winders getting confused and you need some degree of separation between how they intermix with each other. I used to have two 6500s and tried using different antennas and still had overload issues. So rf conflicts would require extra filtering. But audio is channels should be like switching lightbulbs on and off. But if windows thinks they are the same lightbulb. Its getting things muddled. DD

Thanks Erika, I will try these suggestions.

Yes, use different configurations/settings / ShortCuts for the different radios when using WSJT-X with the different radios. Then each configuration will remember the Control/CAT/TCP and the Audio IN/OUT devices needed for each different radio.
You can find instructions in the WSJT-X github page.
It is the same method as running "multiple instances" of WSJT-X.

Hi Ken, that’s what I am doing, using different shortcuts for each radio and configuration with WSJT-x.
