Power Supply Recommendations for Unattended FLEX-6600 Remote Station

Hi everyone!
I’m running a remote station with a FLEX-6600 and I’m looking to choose the best possible 13.8 V DC power supply for remote operation.
What I’m looking for is:

High safety (no risk of overheating/fire),
Stable, clean voltage for continuous HF/SSB/remote use,
Quality protections (OVP, OCP, OTP),
Low RF noise (so it doesn’t affect the receiver/transmitter).

What power supply (model/brand, linear or high-quality switching) would you recommend for a remote station using a FLEX-6600?

Hi Savas,

I use an Astron RS-70M linear PS (https://www.astroncorp.com/linear-desktop-w-meters) to power my 6700. Deliberately overkill for the application based on a lifetime of experience that PSs are not the place to scrimp.

Well made with lots of history powering radios from a company that specializes in power supplies. Extremely clean power, very quiet (in fact, I never hear it at all though it has fans) and reasonably priced considering what you get. 220V models available as well. As an aside I use a 6' run of good quality 10 gauge to the radio.

I use the Rig Expert Shack Master 600. I have the USB from the Shack Master plugged into a small Lenovo Think Center management PC in the radio equipment cabinet. I also have the USB from my LP700 warmer plugged into the Lenovo. I run a program called Virtual Here in server mode on the Lenovo and client mode on my shack PC. This creates two virtual USB ports on the shack PC allowing me to run the RigExpert Shack Master utility program on the shack PC. This allows remote adjustment of output voltage and remote monitors in of the power supply (input power, output voltage and current, etc

I also run the utility program for the LP 700 wattmeter which replicates the front panels of the wattmeter.

The Rig Expert Shack Master i600 s definitely the way to go. Besides being able to set a fixed dc voltasge up to 15Vdc it can also be configured to auto start again after a AC power failure which is a big plus in my mind.

Have used my Astron 35 almost daily for over seven years without issue. I believe it is overkill for the Flex radios.

To close the post…
First of all, I would like to thank all the friends who took some of their time to reply to my question. I would like to clarify to our friends from America that they are indeed lucky, since the first choice for an ASTRON power supply is unfortunately NOT AVAILABLE in Europe. If by any chance something in 220V from the highly reliable company ASTRON is found, it will be either used, refurbished, or equipped with an external transformer.

Therefore, with regret, the option of an ASTRON power supply was excluded. Importing one from the United States is prohibitively expensive, because with customs duties and shipping costs the final price is three times the normal value, not including the additional transformer required for 220V.

As a result, the options I had available for purchase in Europe were the following:

Microset PT 135B

Manson EPA-9300

Rig Expert Shack Master i600, which seems like an excellent power supply, but I prefer a linear power supply rather than a switching one.

In the end, I chose the Microset PT 135B, which is a “cousin” of the ASTRON, and I hope I won’t regret it.

Totally understand. Clearly the Astron suggestion won't work for you but just to clarify a detail, they actually do sell a 220v version if requested as I mentioned in my reply - no transformer required.

Hey Savas,

Please pay attention Microset PT 135B can deliver only 22A continuously. It is few amps short what 6600 needs (recommodation 25A). It is great power supply tho.

Im using Diamond GSV-3000 with my 8600M and it has been working great.
