Has fan profile been changed in 3.10.15?

I run my 8400M exclusively into an amplifier, hence the output from the radio is relatively low. In SmartSDR 3.9.19 and 3.9.18, the fan speed was usually 1184 RPM as measured by Flex Meter V1.2 with occasional increases to circa 1300 RPM.

I have upgraded to 3.10.15 and now I get different and inconsistent fan behaviour. After power up the fan is at its usual 1184 RPM. If the radio temperature rises to 47C, the fan suddenly and dramatically increases its speed to 1680 RPM. I have not seen this before.

As the radio cools, the speed drops to circa 1300 RPM. Now the real issue: if the temperature rises again to 47C or above, the dramatic speed increase does not happen. Even above 50C, unlike the first time the radio reached this temperature, there is no fan speed increase.

If I power off the radio and restart it, when it reaches 47C it again dramatically increases the fan speed to 1680 RPM and again if the temperature drops and then rises there is no corresponding fan speed increase.

Reverting to 3.9.19 and none of this is happening. The fan is either at 1184 RPM or 1300 RPM and the temperature does not rise above 51C.

A) Is the fan in 3.10.15 meant to speed up to what I presume, judging by its volume, is maximum speed at 47C which seems unnecessary?

B) Why does it do this only on the first occurrence of 47C temperature?

C) Is it meant to be like this in 3.10.15 i.e. has there been a programming change?

At 1680 RPM the 8400M develops a low volume but noticeable rattle. It puts me off using 3.10.15. What to do about this?

I'm not aware of any intentional changes in this area, but I'll check it out. Thanks for reporting this. I entered this in our system for tracking as SMART-11922. Has anyone else noticed this?

I tested this after reading this post and my fan speeds are not jumping crazy like Erik's.

My fan speed is 1144 at room temperature and doesn't change until the Temp reach's 56C then jumps to 1284 and stays there until the radio cools to 48 then it drops to 1280, and then at 36C it drops to 1276 and stays there for a long time before it drops back to 1144.

I am running a 8600, V3.10.15 did a hard reset and 12DC unplugged after the update, I did reload the Profiles.

I never tested this before so I am not sure what it did before so not a good comparison on my fan reading but, 1680 RPM doesn't sound right to me
