Product Placement

I just watched the interesting Sci-Fi show called "Skinwalker Ranch" "Darting Around". While they have used SDR receivers and various technologies, I was impressed that they had a FLEX 6400M in a helicopter! Anyone else see that?

You mean this… Looks like there slice is not enabled. I saw later in the show they had what looked like an sdr radio set to wfm mode and they saw a signal. Looked like a birdie to me.

Expecting reality in a fictional TV show? The helicopter could be a stage prop.

I found this shot as well. I think these guys like Flex radios… Maybe they should be using an Aurora.

… but it's cool that they are using a Flex. From a visual POV, 'seeing' a signal on a panadapter is better than watching some guy with headphones and 'hearing' something he hears — at least from a TV perspective.

I was involved with helping a director of a short film based on a ham operator to keep it pretty authentic. The director had approached the local ham radio club where I am the Chair of the technical committee.

I recommended to film at my friend’s QTH who has a nice looking shack with a K3S and accessories. I also showed them the Maestro, which they loved for the “eye candy”.

For scenes where the main character was away from the shack and listening to the HF radio, they used my Maestro C with the RadioSport RS55SL headset, Living room and kitchen scenes. I had the Maestro connected to my home station via SmartLink to show signals and hear audio.

Haven’t heard of a release for the short film yet but the working title is “The Siren”.

Didn’t realize you’re a movie star Dave. That’s awesome ! Did they pay you a nice fee for that ? Let us know if you hear it’s being released!
