latency and dpc

Sometime ago I read a help article here about fine tuning the network adapter to reduce DPC issues. I did it but it seems MSW11 updated without me and **** it all up again. also messed with network public/private settings. I ran latency monitor and showing issues.

I should have downloaded that article and now I cannot find it. Anyone know which one I am talking about?

and….where do I turn off CPU throttling?

Tnx

I doubt it is anything to do with CPU throttling. What issues are you seeing?

the pumping on the display I showed you and Steve at SeaPac.

only asked about the cpu throttling cuz that is one of the things suggested by latencyMON.

Just some ideas, not necessarily helpful, but come to mind:

Network adapter fine tuning is covered here by Flex and might be what you are thinking of

    https://helpdesk.flexradio.com/hc/en-us/articles/202118518-Optimizing-Ethernet-Adapter-Settings-for-Maximum-Performance

CPU throttling, as already explained, is unlikely. If the CPU throttles because of heat you would hear the machine fans maxed out. You could check Windows Settings > System > Power > Power Mode and that you are on 'Balanced' for AMD Ryzen and 'Performance' for Intel. With AMD, ensure minimum and maximum processor state are correct as below.

Erik: I understand a maximum processor state of 100%. But why 0% for the minimum? That seems counter intuitive. Perhaps on a system like on a laptop that might be running on battery. But what advantage is there to 0% for a minimum on a desktop that is operating off the mains? I googled "windows power options minimum processor state" and the answers I saw that made sense were more about the battery than actual CPU performance.

AMD, when you buy any Ryzen CPU, state in their accompanying literature (the following from my Ryzen 5800X and 7950X packages):

"For AMD Ryzen processors, setting the Minimum Processor State to 0% is generally recommended for optimal power management and performance".

Note that I specifically stated AMD. The techno jargon babble states "AMD Ryzen processors are designed to be efficient with power management. Setting the minimum processor state to 0% allows them to leverage their dynamic frequency scaling capabilities to optimize performance and power consumption".

For Intel processors, it doesn't really matter although there is no sense in using more power than necessary when the CPU is in an idle state. Generally the normal value for minimum with Intel is 5%. For desktop computers this is not about battery but general power saving and the CPU ability to respond to a new task. For laptops of course, power saving can be more important than performance when on battery.

But I think we are off-track here. As Mike said, it is doubtful that CPU throttling has anything to do with latency and DPC issues.

Thanks Erik…that is the article I was searching for.
