Very strange NO SIGNALS on first selecting a band

Just started a week ago..
When I first select a band (and sometimes even when the radio comes on to the last I used), there is nothing but background noise - not the hint of a signal anywhere on the band.
So much so that I look to make sure the antenna isn't disconnected or otherwise dead. This will stay as long as I want. If I change to another band - the new band shows some signals - then swich back, and that seems to 'wake it up' and I instantly see signals (obviously they were there all the time).
Immediately switching BACK, then magically all the signals appear! It's becoming more often and consistent. I think mostly 40 and 20, but those I use most anyway. Sometimes I see noise at 130db or so, today there was nothing on the panadapter (no bouncing line) just (audible) background noise).
Now after multiple attempts to get something on 40m, I rebooted the radio and restarted software. I was able to 'retrieve' 40m - by my usual, jump over to 15 and then back trick.
It is becoming more commont that when I FIRST select a band, it's "dead".
No idea but seems more like hardware than software to me. Anyone seen anything like this?
