My previous microphone level now causes distortion in my transmission after updating to 3.9.18

After updating my 6700 to 3.9.18 I discovered a great deal of distortion to my signal and noise and distortion coming out of my left headset monitor. The setup was not changed before/after the firmware update.

The panadapter also showed a symmetrical waveform, like AM rather than the usual SSB form (I was trying to transmit on 28.381 MHzUSB).

Is this a known problem?

It looks and sounds better on my side with the drive reduced by +20%, but the peak output has decreased as well. I haven't been able to find anyone to listen for any distortion of my received signal with this lowered microphone gain.

If anyone has any insight into this strange change I would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks.

Addendum: Some people have found that the 3.9.18 firmware update changed their microphone settings. I have investigated this on my radio and there doesn't appear to be any change from baseline.

I am podering whether I should try to "force" a re-install of 3.9.18, but the only suggestion for that is to do a factory reset, which I have done a few times after this problem occurred. The instructions seem to suggest that once factory reset is perforned you can just update to the same firmware, but this isn't the case with my 6700.
