I went all in. Waiting for delivery!
While waiting for delivery, I have a question regarding Ethernet connection.
My router is downstairs. My shack is upstairs. Is there a way to use my 5G wifi instead of a CAT-5 cable?
Thanks for any advice!

Hi KS1C,
I have a similar situation. I use an ordinary 5G WiFi extender plugged into the wall upstairs in the room where my 6700, PGXL and TGXL are. They're all connected to a TL-SG1024DE switch up there using CAT6E and have worked perfectly that way for many years. Like you, my WiFi/router is downstairs and on the other side of the house. Not a single issue of any kind in all that time including remote operation of that stuff via WAN from the vacation house.
Based on my experience you should be fine.

hi Charlie
A pleasure talking to you this week. As Russ stated, run the Flex equipment into a gigabit Ethernet switch then add add a 5 GHz extender to talk to the router.
Here at home, I replaced my original router with an Asus Zen WiFi AX7800 mesh system which has one main router unit and two satellites. The main unit WAN port connects to my fiber gateway which is programmed in bridge mode by the cable company. The LAN port feeds a 16 port Ethernet switch in my computer room/shack. Each satelllite unit has two gigabit ports which I have each feeding 5 port Ethernet switches. This allows my MAC, TVs, satellite receiver and remote unit, Xbox, Roku, etc be able to plug into the network.
The Zen WiFi AX7800 system uses a dedicated 6 GHz channel as a backhaul between Asus Zen devices. Then there are a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi channel. The WiFi name is just one name covering both 2.4 and 5 GHz channel. This allows units like the Maestro, iPads and iPhones to roam to the closest mesh unit automatically.
I hope this helps and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have additional questions73 heading back to Field Day for the overnight

UPDATE! I have the 8600 & Maestro connected via wi-fi. I have 400 mpbs from our local cable provider, so I'm not seeing any ill effects from not having a direct CAT-5 connection.
I have not yet connected the PGXL. I'm waiting till I get everything else ironed out.
Side note: If there's a glossary with complete explanations somewhere, I have not found it - and I desperately need one.
So far, learning by braille combined with guessing hasn't been fun. I have not yet sold my Yaesu FTdx101MP and I'm thinking of putting it back online.0 -
Wow, what an awesome setup! Congratulations. I'm new to the community, having recently purchased a used 6400 w/ ITU. I absolutely love this radio.
Mine is connected via ethernet, but it is in my server room/rack area and I have no physical access to the unit. All of my access is over the network — either from my MacBook Air (which is connected to ethernet at my desk, but wifi otherwise) or my iPad/iPhone, both of which are wifi only.
I have a WireGuard setup for remote access to my home network, and that remote access goes through my DigitalOcean VM in New York. There might be a tiny bit of latency with that setup, but I have never had any complaints, and I don't notice any issues.
Only time I ever noticed an issue was when I was running a high-CPU app on my MacBook Air — basically I can't use that and SmartSDR simultaneously, but as long as I'm not running that app, the radio works great.
Congrats again on the awesome new setup.
