Radio that works?

When plopping down almost $5K is it too much to expect a radio that works?

I am SO frustrated! Every time I sit down and start things there is almost always something to solve. This time it is no band data showing on the tgxl app. If I TX for a moment it may then tune, like it is set to RF Sense. But the app shows the correct antenna and frequency.

Then it starts with the interlock message again. I think I may be ready to return for a refund…maybe apply it to the Aurora in hopes they will fix some things by the time it comes out.

When this works its great. The problem is most of the time, it doesn't. I turn everything on in the right sequence per the dream station setup. Then I open the apps in the same sequence.

What am I doing wrong?

Now that I am done venting. I went out to my garage where everything is located and shut everything down then started again (radio, pgxl then tgxl). Now we're working again.

I think i MAY know what it is this time. TGXL is connected to the shackmaster. That is what gets turned on first via Sonoff and DLI outlet. So it throws the start up sequence off. I may have to connect the TGXL to the other relay output on the sonoff in the same fashion as the DLI switch.

Greg if I may. Create yourself a start up checklist. For instance, I start up the the radio rack. I always flip the main power switch to power the rack, I then hit the button on the 6500. The power supply comes on with the rack and starts my coax switch remote box. I then turn on my amplifier. I don't have a PGXL Or TGXL, but the ALPHA 9500 also has antennas on it and the wattmeter I wait to power powersupply on the amp until I know I will need it. Then the op desk. Computer that's a gimme. I first start SSDR, DDUTIL, Turn on the rotor, HAM RADIO DELUXE, Once I know I will be FT8'in or CW'in or Fone'in I start JTSYNC the time shift software and WSJT-X. Your Mileage will vary as you have different gear. But I would read KEN'S setting up the dream station article on the site.

Then shut down should be the opposite of the startup… If you shut down the radio while it is connected to the SSDR software it will crash not shut down smooth… Once you start getting a hang of the flow, you can can go with memory instead of a check list. But I still crash things about once a week. There's times you'll delete a slice and your radio will come up with no receiver showing. somebody is doing that once or more a month. I always had after the airline checklist a GUMPS check on short final. kept me from bellying in big bird when I was tired (freighter pilot flying nights, even with two up there, some nights are just really bad.)

What you do next month is up to you. But hating your system before you even have operation down pat isn't fair to the radio or yourself. I had a customer who said I couldn't fix a Drake L4B in the 1970's after the third time he fired up with the coax hanging down the wall instead of **** on to the amp… trust me coax dangling is a bad thing. Complaining about your tech to her boss is even worse. Have a great day, Erika K0DD
