Tailscale client on 8x00 radio
Seems to me that the actual radio runs Linux (?) ..would it be possible to put the tailscale client on the actual radio itself. This would be gooooood. I mean, could flex HQ somehow allow that to happen,.of you signed a waiver or something. Appreciate the concern re security/performance etc.

I’m pretty sure the actual radio runs a version of embedded Microsoft Windows… and given that, I’m not sure how much anyone wants to deviate from the default built & whatever FlexRadio adds :frowning:0

Pretty sure the Radio itself still runs on a version of Linux and the M head and Maestro runs on a embedded version of Windows from what I can remember, at least that's what the 6xxx series ran.

TailScale will not get you around CG-NAT. You need a layer 2 VPN set up for TUN. There is another thread on the Community which discusses ZeroTier. Just search the Community for ZeroTier and in the discussion a member wrote instructions on how to set it up.
One thing worth noting. The amount of data used over VON is substantially more than over SmartLink. When using VPN the radio thinks it is on a LAN and sends uncompressed data.73 Dave wo2x
