Smartlink Choppy Audio Revisited

Audio glitches and struggles to catch up. Is there a fix for this? This wasn't always the case.

> Windows 11

> Lenovo laptop, gaming level video card, Intel Core Ultra 7 processor

> Latest version of SmartSDR - 3.8.20.

> Full green on internet connection, 5 green bars.

> Used on a wide range of remote internet sources, same result.

> Direct use, local connection, no issues

> Task manager reveals the laptop is keeping up with plenty of ram and processing headroom.

    Hi Ray

Tell me more about your setup. How is the radio connected to the computer? LAN cables, network switch, WiFi. We need to consider this path also because they can contribute to audio dropouts and are often the root cause.

Wow. Sorry about the delay, didn't see this response until March.

Its a Lenovo laptop, Intel Core Ultra 7 processor. Always Wifi. One of my regular uses is with a high school ham radio club; school wifi, conference room setup, HDMI video to conference room screen, portable Bose speaker for audio. Glitching occurs even with 5 bars on the Smartlink.

Well, the SmartLink is a little misleading. Unlike some indicators it’s not a strength indicator, it’s more relative to dropped packets

Correct, the SL indicator is a health indicator. More details in the user guide.

So you're saying this glitching is unusual? That it's all the fault of the wifi?

We have used other SDR sources on that same school wifi that don't glitch my 6400.

Hi Ray, you have two potential areas that could be causing issues. One is the WiFi link. The other is the PC Audio.

To test if it is the PC Audio, plug a powered speaker or headphone into the back of the radio and de-select the PC Audio. If you still have the problem, then it could be the WiFi.

To test if it is the WiFi, plug your PC directly into the radio (even if just temporarily) and re-start the radio and PC.

If you could try these things and report your findings back here, it would be helpful in diagnosing the problem.
