Bug in 3.8.21

edited February 5 in SmartSDR for Windows
Within an hour of powering on, I experienced the following problem:
SmartSDR suddenly vanished with an error message stating that the connection had been lost. A new selection dialog appears and says no radios available. About 10 or 20 seconds later, SmartSDR reappears and begins working normally with one exception. I'm not exactly sure what its proper name is - the floating window at the top of the slice. I had two active slices. However, the bottom slice came back with no floating control window. I can't find a way to get it back. Note that I did not have this problem with an earlier version. Closing the slice and then clicking on +RX gets "Slice limit has been reached...". There is only one active slice visible. Clicking the button in the lower left with the waveform graphic and+ restores the slice but still without the floating control window. I wasn't able to find anything in the manual that explains how to get that control window back. Shutting down SmartSDR and restarting returned to the same state with no control window in the bottom slice. Not sure where to go from here. Also, my network is rock solid and the radio shares the same hub as the computer with 5 green bars in the lower right.

Did you do a cold boot after upgrading to v3.8.21? If not it can cause exactly what you are experiencing. I had the same problem because I hadn't done a cold boot. Once I did, the problem hasn't re-occurred. I did encounter other problems later on. But, they had nothing to do with v3.8.21. ( needed to clean the internal fuse pins which caused a low voltage problem)

This is what SmartSDR looks like after a cold boot and a full restart. Examine it carefully and you can see the problems. I then uninstalled and reinstalled it and got the same results. SmartSDR is running on a Windows 10 machine. I'm moving on to another computer - Windows 11 so I hope it works.

As you know, the 6300 can only display two slices. You have both slices active on the same Panadapter. Close one of them and then right click on the other Panadapter display and select create slice receiver.

I'm not sure what radio you have…I think the Flex 6300…my old eyes can's tell from your photo. The photo you have shows two Panadapters open…you also have created two slices on the bottom Panadapter. You have reached your limit on slices….if you want a slice on the top Panadapter you will need to close one slice on the bottom Panadapter.

Flex has several help files that would give you additional information…
