Revise software for Maestro console

Member ✭✭

Hello to all Readers

The Maestro console is all well and good as long as I'm operating CW or SSB. But when it comes to digital, I need a computer.

That's why it would be great if the Mestro console (A-C) had something like “SmartSDR iOS” implemented.....

Or am I missing something???

The Maestro has an OEM version of Windows, not the full OS. It runs an embedded version of SmartSDR in firmware. So no support for other OS.

I'm not talking about a different operating system, but about the fact that it would be great if SmartSDR (on the Maestro console) implemented FT8. Just like SmartSDR for iOS.

what John is saying is the Maestro app is written for the unit’s embedded Windows OS. WSJT-X probably would not run on that.

Then also, what about logging? And Flex should not be responsible to keep a third party’s app (WSJT-X) up to date. It would be a support headache.

Then I wonder why Marcus & Jan Roskosch can do that in their app. It has digital mods and a logbook.

The logbook can be synchronized via icloud or i drive or whatever.

Marcus and Jan are independent developers of their software interface for the Flex radios. The front panel of the M model radios and the Maestro is not intended to run other applications other than SmartSDR itself. The modular design of the Flex Radio ecosystem where 3rd party developers can add features not in SmartSDR itself is a good thing. It reduces the support needed if users have problems with features added that normally are not a part of SmartSDR itself. Flex Radio has a clearly defined API that is freely available to 3rd party developers. SmartSDR doesn't need to be bloated with features that can exist outside of SmartSDR instead of being integrated into SmartSDR making it harder to track down problems when they occur. I for one hope Flex Radio never goes down the path of adding everything but the kitchen sink to SmartSDR.

I understand the ideology of Flexradio.

But if I am traveling remotely (vacation etc.) and ONLY use the Maestro console, how can I use the digital operating modes WITHOUT a PC? 😎

    You can’t.

One reason is the digital modes use third party programs. Keeping up with those program updates would be a support nightmare.

Daniel, have you thought about taking a MacBook and using it instead of the Maestro? Then you could use Marcus' software with the extras you need and only need a microphone to operate remotely. That might be a better alternative to using a Maestro and having to bring along a laptop for the extra applications you want to use. I have used a really low spec'ed tablet remotely with my Flex radios in the past. A MacBook would be a big improvement and give you everything you need in one package. (Just an alternative to consider)

I use a large iPad by itself. Works great.
