How do you sync my monitor display with the front panel of the 8600M?

I just received my 8600M and set it up per the Quick Start Guide and I find the monitor display and front panel of the 8600M are not in sync, e.g. the frequencies are different. How do you sync the two?

Hi David, the radio is a server that can serve up to two GUI clients (i.e. Panadapter visible) at a time. Your front panel is one GUI client and SmartSDR is the other. The idea is that each of these can control its own slice receivers independently from the other.

The only way to put the two clients into sync with one another is to put the front panel into SmartControl mode (see section 9 of the Maestro User Guide). Once done, the knobs and buttons of the front panel and the controls of SmartSDR will operate on the same slice receivers simultaneously. Note that when in SmartControl mode, the front panel is no longer a GUI client (it is just a client), and therefore will not be able to show the panadapter/waterfall.

In many ways this is the best of both worlds - large monitor screen with the panadapter and waterfall, easy mouse control of all functions while simultaneously being able to use the knobs and buttons for those functions where that is easier.

Your “monitor display” is hooked up to the HDMI output on the 8600M? If so, it should mirror the front panel of the radio.
