new buy : 6600 or 8600?

I am looking to buy a Flex to add to my shack.
I have identified two choices: a 6600 to find used or a new 8600.
Which makes more sense for DX use?

Hi Lou, at the moment, either one will work equally well. The 8600 has a faster processor and FPGA, so it will have more functionality in the future. It also has a built-in GNSS disciplined oscillator and the hardware to support Adaptive Pre Distortion.

I currently have a 6600M which I really like. And until my circumstances change I will be happy to keep it around longer. But, if I were making a decision between a used 6600 and a new 8600,I would choose the new 8600 for the reasons listed already. Plus having a warranty as well. The 6600 radios are great radios. But, going with a new 8600 gives you more features that may not make it to the 6600 radios because of hardware limitations. If on the other hand, money is an issue, a used 6600 is well worth having as it is still a very formidable radio. I believe either one is worth having if it meets your current wants and needs.

So, from what I understand, the 8000 series is a purchase with a view to a future software ( that will make the difference) ? currently the improvement of performance 8000 vs 6000 are minimal?

Hi Lou, yes, that is correct. The other advantage of the 8600 is better long-term parts availability if it needs to be repaired.

Hi Janny, send me an email with a detailed description of the 6600M for sale (purchase date, warranty validity, photos, price) to evaluate.
